The area around Viraggas, is ideal for bird watching. The practice of observing birds in their natural environment, is a noble and also exciting hobby.
-Viraggas small hotel, is between four at least beautiful areas for bird watching.
Agios Mamas lake -We feel quite happy to be very close, almost 30min by car, to Ag.Mamas lake. It gathers lots of migrating birds as flamingos, herons, cormorans and ducks.
Flamingos in lake Kerkini and in Agios Mamas lagoon, are still white and not pink, just because of the food.

Agios Vasilios and Apollonia -On the North, we have the lakes of Ag.Vasilios and Apollonias, also with lots of different birds. There is a very beautiful road connecting Viraggas and these two lakes, through the mountain of Cholomontas. The route is amazing and especially during the morning. It will take about an hour to reach the area.
Kerkini’s lake -Further to the North, just before the Bulgarian frontier, there is the amazing lake of Kerkini, which is described thoroughly, in a previous post. It is about a 162kms away from Viraggas and it will take aproximately, 2hrs and 30min by car.
Delta of Axios-Vardar -And then, there is the area of Axios or Vardar river, outside of Thessaloniki, almost an hour and a half, with so many different kinds of birds.
Of course, even close to Viraggas, there are so many birds for watching.
